Because they make a difference, thank you to our nurses and midwives
Tuesday, May 04, 2010
The nurses and midwives of Eastern Health are set to celebrate International Nurses and Midwives Day from Wednesday 5-12 May 2010.

Eastern Health’s Chief Nursing & Midwifery Officer David Plunkett says International Nurses and Midwives Day is a great opportunity to acknowledge the contribution and commitment of our nursing and midwifery team to the community.

“Eastern Health nurses and midwives make a real and invaluable difference by providing excellent care to our many patients and they do so professionally, compassionately and with respect every day.”

Across the world nurses, other health professionals and members of the community come together on the day of Florence Nightingale’s birth to participate in festivities, which acknowledge the importance and value of nursing.

Throughout Eastern Health, nurses and midwives will celebrate the occasion by coming together to reflect upon and celebrate their achievements and profession with their colleagues at a range of events including morning teas and BBQ luncheons.

“The Eastern Health nursing and midwifery workforce of around 4000 men and women provide countless occasions of service to more than 250,000 patients each year including the delivery of approximately 4500 babies – their efforts, contribution and commitment cannot be overstated,” said Mr Plunkett.

“Because they make a real difference to our community, at Eastern Health we say thank you to our nurses and midwives not just today but everyday for their hard work in providing patient-centred care that meets the needs of the community.

“Eastern Health has great career opportunities for nurses and midwives across our health service, from Box Hill Hospital in the inner-east to the outer-east and Yarra Ranges. We offer a range of family-friendly, flexible work options. We are recruiting now and nurses and midwives who are interested in joining us can find out more by visiting our website www.easternhealth.org.au and clicking on the careers button.”
