INDIGENOUS HEALTH

Eastern Health employs indigenous and non indigenous staff to work with the eastern metropolitan indigenous community.

 

We provide home and community care services (HACC) including:

 

• Domestic assistance
• Garden and property maintenance
• Personal care
• Social support
• Planned activity groups
• Elder visiting services
• Volunteer support services

 

HACC funding is provided by the Commonwealth and State government.

 

We receive funding from the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH) to provide primary health services for those with:

 

• Chronic diseases like diabetes and heart and respiratory problems
• Health screening services for children and adults of all ages
• Support services for young people
• Womens health services
• Maternal and child health and shared care
• Maternity support services

 

We also offer health promotion services including:

 

• 'Tobacco free' clinics

•  Exercise programs for men and women

•  Men’s programs
