Eastern Health-Deakin University Nursing Research Unit
A collaborative partnership to drive research within the disciplines of nursing and midwifery with the aim of improving patient outcomes.
Established in 1999, the Nursing Research Unit is a collaborative partnership between the School of Nursing at Deakin University and Eastern Health and actively supports nursing and midwifery research across all Eastern Health sites.
The Unit is committed to excellence in teaching and learning, and translating research into clinical practice to improve patient health by translating research findings into practice.
Our research consist of three integrated programs:
- quality and risk management
- healthcare service delivery
- interprofessional communication & decision making
Through the Eastern Health / Deakin University partnership local, national and international collaborations in research have developed.
The Unit provides support to nurse and midwife clinicians and students of graduate and higher degree programs that wish to pursue research questions that have a health focus. Honours, Masters and Doctoral research supervision is available to nurses and midwives in the areas of oncology, palliative/end-of-life care, cardiovascular disease, clinical decision making, evidence-based practice, emergency / critical care, and surgery.
At Eastern Health, nursing and midwifery staff are actively encouraged and supported by management and staff from the Unit to be involved in the processes of clinical inquiry and research.
