Mission Statement

The mission of the library is to provide quality information services in an accurate, timely, and cost-effective way to our customers, both internal and external to Eastern Health.

Library Aims

The library aims to provide, promote and facilitate access to the information needed to support patient care, education and research.

Library Objectives
  1. The library supports the goals and strategic directions of Eastern health by providing information resources and services.
  2. To constantly match resources and services to the needs of staff.
  3. To endeavour to satisfy the client's needs promptly and efficiently
  4. To endeavour to provide access to the best available resources
  5. To provide guidance on authoritative sources of health information.
  6. To promote the acquisition of library/information skills

Access/Hours of Operation

The library is open from

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY   8.30a.m. - 5.00p.m.

After hours access is restricted to Peter James Centre staff. To gain access staff must show ID to Reception, register, then the Hospital Attendant will be contacted to open the library.

Resources

The library holds a collection of books and journals which reflect the wide range of disciplines covered by the Centre = Gerontology, Psychogeriatrics, Nursing, Allied Health, Rehabilitation, Health Administration and General Medicine.

- An occasional newsletter
- Study Carrels
- Clinicians Health Channel (computer on-line searching)
- Display - New Books and Current Journals
- I.L.L. For materials not held at Peter James.

Borrowing of Library Materials

Books may be borrowed for 4 weeks unless otherwise advised, depending on demand for a particular publication.

- Audio-visual - 1 week

- Loan limit of 4 books

- Material may be renewed before due date

- Books/Videos can only be borrowed when librarian is in attendance.


Lost or Non-Returned Books

Borrower is responsible for return of items within the appointed time. If not returned an account for the replacement value of the material (plus administrative charges) will be forwarded by the Librarian to the borrowers. All material must be returned to the library before ceasing employment at Peter James Centre.
