The Dietitians at Peter James Centre provide nutritional information to assist patients to achieve an optimal level of independent functioning and quality of life by maintaining or improving their nutritional status to enhance health and well being.

Inpatients
Screening to identify patients at nutritional risk
 
Individual nutrition assessment, education and provision of special diets (includes monitoring of patient progress)
 
Combined Program with Speech Pathology to ensure adequate nutrition for patients with swallowing difficulties
 
Referral to Community Dietitian on discharge from hospital (if required)
 
 
Aged Psychiatry Program
 
Dining Room Observations
 
Individual nutrition assessment, education and implementation of Dietary Modifications
 
Combined Program with Speech Pathology
 
Weekly review of all patients in assessment ward
 
Monthly assessment of clients in Aged Care Residences
 
 
Community Programs
    Dietitians see community patients for short term nutrition assessment & education in the following programs:
   
Community Rehabilitation Centre
   
Rehab In The Home
   
Movement Disorders
 
 
Home Enteral Nutrition Program
 
This is a service for patients discharged home from Peter James Centre with an enteral feeding tube (eg PEG tube)
    The service may be accessed for as long as needed
 
 
Food Services
 
Menu review
 
Regular meetings with the Contracted Food Provider
 
Regular audits of the Food Service to maintain quality standards
 
 
Dietetic Student Training
 
Access to Dietitians
 
Inpatients
    A Dietitian is allocated to each ward on a part time basis. Patients (or relatives or carers of inpatients) who would like to speak with the Dietitian should arrange this with the Nurse In Charge.
 
 
Aged Care Residences (Northside & Mooroolbark)
    Relatives or carers who would like to speak with the Dietitian should ask the Nurse In Charge to arrange an appointment.
 
 
Community Clients
    Access to Dietitians is by written referral only.
 
Hours
  0930 hrs - 1730 hrs Monday to Friday
  There is no Dietetic service on weekends or public holidays.
