ECATT provide a comprehensive community based assessment and treatment service to persons between the age of 16 –64 years who are in psychiatric crisis. They may be in need of a hospital admission or treatment in the community as an alternative to admission. This service is also provided to the Maroondah Hospital Emergency Department.

A service that offers Community Rehabilitation for clients with an enduring severe disability associated with mental illness in the context of declining psychosocial functioning.

The primary role is to offer assistance to clients who are likely to benefit from a period of intensive input to increase their level of functioning within the community.

Unlike other Area Mental Health Services the OEMSTS does not operate as a frontline referral service. All referrals are made via the client's Case Manager.

Non-urgent mental health assessments: for referred clients who may have a need for mental health service intervention.

Case management: aimed at providing non-urgent intervention for mentally ill clients.

Case management should be considered when the needs of the client cannot be met by other more generic services and where assertive follow up may be required. Referrals are accepted from Outer East triage or other public area mental health service where the client is already case managed.
General Practitioners, non-government organisations, psychiatric disability support services, family members, friends or any one else may refer clients to the triage service, discussing any concerns with the clinician answering the phone.

The Outer East Community Care Unit provides a two week comprehensive psychosocial assessment and ongoing residential psychosocial rehabilitation.
This service is suitable for registered clients with a history of mental illness and associated deterioration in psychosocial functioning.

The rehabilitation program is tailored to suit each client and length of stay may vary from 3 months to 12 months depending on an individual’s needs.

The aim of rehabilitation is to increase an individual’s independent functioning, well being and quality of life through the consolidation and development of their personal and domestic activities of daily living, community access skills, illness management, psychological wellbeing, social skills training and recreational/vocational engagement.

Suitable candidates must demonstrate a motivation to change and will be assisted to develop achievable goals.
