| The Victorian Government has made a welcome announcement of $407.5m funding for the development of a new Box Hill Hospital. |
The new hospital will include a new building on the site where the Clive Ward building currently stands and refurbishment of existing buildings. It is the largest single suburban health infrastructure project in Victoria.
Clare Douglas, Box Hill Hospital’s General Manager said “we are thrilled with this major commitment to our hospital and local communities, especially in such a challenging economic climate and we look forward to developing a new hospital that will support our staff in providing the best possible care and services for our patients.”
The redevelopment reflects the key requirements described by Eastern Health and the Department of Health to meet the needs of our local communities for the next decade and beyond. The increased capacity will enable us to meet increasing demand with:
- over 100 more beds (including 30 sub-acute beds for the first time)
- an expanded emergency department (with 19 more cubicles)
- a new intensive care unit
- six more surgical theatres and four refurbished theatres
- a major upgrade to critical care services
- a new cardiology ward
- a new coronary care unit
- new catheter and endoscopy facilities
“These great improvements will support our staff in treating our patients efficiently and promptly in settings specifically designed for their needs” said Ms Douglas.
Works will commence during the first half of next year and are due for completion by 2015. Box Hill Hospital will remain fully operational during the redevelopment. In the coming months, there will be much work to do in finetuning plans for a state-of-the-art, green facility that incorporates the use of technical innovations to deliver services. We will keep you up-to-date with developments and information as further details become available.
