Monda Lodge - Aged Residential Care Facility
Monda Lodge

In 1996, Monda Lodge was built in the beautiful grounds of Healesville & District Hospital. The setting is six acres of sloping land amongst trees and wildlife and has magnificent views of the surrounding hills and countryside, which create a feeling of relaxation and country life. Areas have been designed to encourage activities and enjoyment of the grounds and gardens all year round.

Monda Lodge Hostel has been designed around the philosophy of a homelike environment. Residents are welcomed into an atmosphere of caring, warmth, stability and tranquility, which invokes memories of home and family. Residents are encouraged to live their lives to the full and are given the loving support to do so. An open door philosophy exists for family and friends to visit, feel at home and be involved in their loved ones lives. Programs and activities are ongoing for residents to pursue their involvement in the community and not feel isolated from the outside, world.

Monda Lodge Hostel consists of three separate houses of ten bedrooms. Each house has its own distinct character with verandahs and porches to take in the spectacular views. Large lounge and dining areas encourage a feeling of space and independence.

Monda Lodge successfully achieved 3 years accreditation from the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency in July 2000.

Monda Lodge is a means tested Government facility. Those residents who are financially advantaged pay an Accommodation Bond in the form of an asset tested, interest free loan to Monda Lodge. There are a number of rooms made available to people who are in receipt of a full pension and have not been home owners for two years prior to their intended entry. In both cases, there is a fortnightly means tested fee determined in accordance with CentreLink. These fees cover all living expenses with the exception of telephone charges, medications and expenses of a personal nature.

Monda Lodge offers a range of social and recreational activities in which residents are encouraged to participate. Having our own 12 seater bus allows us to arrange trips to destinations such as Phillip Island, lunch at South Melbourne beach, the tulip farm at Silvan, as well as local places such as Maroondah Dam, C.J. Dennis Singing Gardens, local coffee shops, to name but a few.

A weekly trip to the local shops, library and banks enables residents to maintain their independence. Individuals are also encouraged to participate in programs offered by other groups within the community.

We have a wonderful group of volunteers who assist with various activities, as well as contact with various music groups and school choirs who visit and perform here. Cards and board games, craft, armchair travel and movies are popular with the residents. All residents and their families are encouraged to utilise the gazebo and barbeque within the lovely gardens when the weather permits.

Prospective residents need to be assessed to determine their current care needs. This assessment can be organised through a Doctor or by contacting the Outer East Aged Care Assessment Service on (03) 9724 1610. Once an assessment has been obtained, an appointment can be made with the hostel manager to enable the prospective resident and their family to look around the hostel and grounds. This is an ideal opportunity to discuss any queries or concerns and to obtain further information.
