Maternity Services Early Pregnancy Assessment
Birralee Maternity Unit (Box Hill Hospital) has established an Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS) that addresses early pregnancy problems.
This service streamlines and improves care for women with pregnancy complications during their first 14 weeks.
Please go to Birralee admissions desk for directions to the Fetal Maternal Assessment Clinic (FMAC).
Eligibility Criteria
Women in first trimester who have had a positive pregnancy test and have abdominal pain and/or vaginal bleeding.
Women with a non-viable pregnancy diagnosed on ultrasound.
Women with a suspected ectopic pregnancy who are haemodynamically stable.
The limited hours of service will ensure prompt service and decrease exposure to other services offered within the department (fetal monitoring by CTG machine) which may be potentially distressing for some women. Women referred to the unit should be clinically stable and can be given an appointment for the next working day.
