With medical themed fancy dress among them, a sea of blue event shirted runners and walkers completed the 4 and 8km circuit making it from Ringwood Lake, past the Hospital and back as patients and visitors took up vantage points at hospital windows and along the footpath to cheer the runners on.
“Maroondah Hospital plays a vital role in the community,” said Hospital General Manager Zoltan Manager.
“The hospital has been providing a range services in this community for over 30-years and was built on the foundation of community support. 30-years on this support is as strong as ever with volunteers, auxiliaries and the local business community always willing to put their hand up for the hospital.
“Today is just another example of the community coming together for the institution of Maroondah Hospital and the invaluable services it provides to some 50,000 patient presentations a year.”
Funds raised from today’s event will directly benefit patients with the hospital targeting the purchase of new state-of-the-art medical equipment.
“Today’s inaugural event has been a great success with families and friends not only enjoying the early morning run but the fun post event activities all in support of the hospital. We can only look forward to even bigger and better event in years to come,” said Mr Kokai.
In addition to the race participants, over 70 volunteers were on hand to set up and break down all the equipment, Marshal, man the Drink Stations and assist with the many important tasks and responsibilities. Many thanks to all who gave of their time and energy on the day.
A special thank you as well to the Sponsors and Supporters, many of whom participated by hosting family friendly activities to enhance the event.
I would also like to say I am truly overwhelmed by the generosity of the Suppliers and Service Providers who heavily discounted or donated in support of the event.
