Community Rehab Centre

With the opening of the hospitals new Community Rehabilitation Centre in October 2006, after four years, the hospitals major redevelopment projects are complete. Angliss Hospital remains committed to providing accessible health care services in a timely and efficient manner in a safe environment.

Following the Master Planning of Angliss in 2001 there have been many new and exciting redevelopments at Angliss Hospital. The next challenge is to address other poor infrastructure, the main focus being the redevelopment of wards so that they are more modern and functional and to improve facilities such as the front entrance, pharmacy and administrative areas. In order to progress this objective, Eastern Health and the Angliss Hospital together with the Department of Human Services, has commenced a process to review and update the 2001 Master plan in line with the Eastern Health Strategic Plan.

Bullet Project Background

Community Rehabilitation Centre

Angliss Hospital’s new Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) supports the delivery of sub-acute health services.

Funded through the Commonwealth Pathway Home Program which provides grants to upgrade and improve rehabilitation and step-down facilities, the CRC development is valued at $4.3m.

The CRC is located on the corner of Talaskia Road and Edward Street beneath the Hospital’s purpose built inpatient rehabilitation unit which was opened in September 2003.

The CRC is a purpose built facility designed for the delivery of centre-based and home-based outpatient rehabilitation services.

The many features of the purpose built facility include:

  • A dedicated entrance
  • On-site parking for disabled persons
  • A drop off area close to the entrance
  • A central reception and waiting area
  • Consulting areas for health professionals such as doctors, psychologists and dieticians
  • Therapy areas for services such as physiotherapy, speech pathology, and occupational therapy
  • Large open areas both internally and externally for group programs
  • Assessment and treatment areas such as a kitchen, laundry and garden, designed to resemble a normal home environment allowing staff to observe how a person can manage independently
  • A ‘base’ for staff providing services to patients in their home which is ideal when patients need to re-learn some of life’s daily living skills following an illness such as a stroke or orthopaedic surgery

The development of the CRC was officially launched by The Hon. Gavin Jennings, Minister for Aged Care and Aboriginal Affairs and Mr Jason Woods, Federal Member for LaTrobe with the ‘first sod’ turned in early March 2006.

At the official launch, Minister Jennings noted, “It’s encouraging to see health services so enthusiastically shift outmoded attitudes and engage older clients as a core part of business by designing age-friendly settings and innovative services.

Theatre 3 Upgrade & Day Procedure Unit

Angliss Hospitals commitment to improve access to surgical services has been enhanced with the completion of a $300,000 upgrade to what was previously a procedure room, to a fully functional operating theatre in the Theatres complex of Angliss Hospital. With increasing emergency and elective surgery demand, the Theatre 3 upgrade will improve access to surgical services to the community of the eastern region of Melbourne.

Further development at Angliss Hospital to improve service access includes the development of the old Emergency Department to a new Day Procedure Unit increasing capacity to 20 beds to compliment existing services across the Hospital.
