BOX HILL HOSPITAL’S EXCITING FUTURE

According to Dr Tracey Batten, Eastern Health Chief Executive, “the community served by Box Hill Hospital has reason to celebrate with the State Government funding commitment of $38.2 million for the first stage of the hospital’s much anticipated total redevelopment.”

The funding commitment will construct a new building, to be completed by mid 2008, that will include:

• A new 16 chair renal dialysis service,
• Teaching, training and research facilities,
• Office accommodation and
• Much needed 600 plus space carparking.

These facilities, to be constructed opposite the current hospital, also importantly frees up space for the total redevelopment of Box Hill Hospital.

Box Hill Hospital today provides services to a population of 700,000 people in the eastern region of Melbourne but demand for services is increasing particularly with an ageing population. A redeveloped hospital will see the hospital reconfigured from a 1950’s hospital into a 21st century health service precinct better designed to meet that increasing demand.

“Box Hill Hospital and the community it serves should be excited by the green light given by this funding announcement for the first stage that will ultimately enable a future new world class hospital for the eastern suburbs” said Dr Batten.
