FAQs - General

The Eastern Health Graduate Nursing and Midwifery Program is progressive, responsive and innovative. We offer 175 positions across our health service to graduates in two intakes. 

Our point of difference:

  • We offer tailored streams to suit your areas of interest as a graduate nurse and/or midwife.
  • We have permanent contracts of employment for all graduates
  • We offer employment 4 days a week to support work-life balance
  • We offer leadership opportunities with Graduate Ambassadors within the Graduate Representative Group 

More than 95% of our graduates remain in the health service after the graduate year.

Pure Streams (all 12 months)

          1. Midwifery - rotational program across whole scope of midwifery practice

          2. General Nursing - two six month rotations

          3. Mental Health Nursing - three four month rotations 

          4. Continuing Care Nursing - two six month rotations

Blended Streams

          5. Nursing and Midwifery - 18 months (12 months midwifery +  six months nursing)

          6. General Nursing and Mental Health - 12 months (six months in each area)

          7. General Nursing and Continuing Care including community based care - 12 months (six months in each area)

Clinical rotation options - Nursing

  • General Nursing - Cardiac, Day Surgery, Dialysis, Emergency, Medical, Neurology, Oncology, Perioperative, Paediatrics, Renal, Surgical.
  • Mental Health Nursing- adolescent, adult, alcohol and drug, Private Hospital rotation (partnership)
  • Continuing Care Nursing including Community based care - Palliative Care, Rehabilitation, Geriatric and Evaluation Medicine, District Nursing, Aged Care.


We are very supportive of graduates who wish to complete Honours whilst participating in the Graduate Program. We have a partnership with Deakin University for the Honours program and we also support students who wish to complete Honours with other Universities.
