Renal Medicine
|
Inpatient, Outpatient and 24 hour oncall services are provided by four physicians. Patients with acute and chronic renal failure are supported. Patients requiring initiation of dialysis are currently referred but can then be followed as outpatients at Box Hill Hospital or Private rooms. Future plans for the Hospital include Dialysis facilities. The Intensive Care Unit provides Haemofiltration for acute renal failure. Renal Physicians

- Renovascular disease
- Vasculitis
- SLE
- Pregnancy-associated renal disease; Glomerulonephritis
- Investigation of proteinuria and haematuria
- Pre-dialysis work-up and management of chronic renal failure (CRF) e.g. erythropoietin for anaemia
- Prevention of renal complications in Diabetes
- Investigation and management of hypertension
- Cardiovascular complications of CRF
Patients are admitted with the following conditions:
- Acute renal failure
- Chronic renal failure [pre-dialysis]
- Hypertension
- Renovascular disease e.g. for Renal artery stenting
- Nephrotic Syndrome
- Acute nephritic syndrome
- Complicated urinary infection
- Renal tubular and electrolyte disturbances

Attended by Drs Wilson, Scurrah and Roberts- Tuesday afternoon : Hypertension
Attended by Dr WilsonThis is provided in conjunction with Medical Imaging Department
as an Outpatient service. Referrals either via Outpatient clinic or Renal registrar.Inpatient consultative service
Referrals are made via Renal Registrar. The renal physicians provide a 24 hour roster.
