Star Introduction

"Play Therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child's natural medium of self expression. It is opportunity which is given to the child to 'play out' his feelings and problems."
- Virginia Axline

Playroom
Star  How does Play Therapy help children in hospital?

The Hospital experience can be stressful for young children as they move from familiar surroundings of their homes into an environment that is unfamiliar. For some children this experience could have effects such as withdrawal, depression, aggression, regression and phobias.

Play provides a reassuring element of normality in a strange environment. During play, the child can express feelings, thoughts, experiences and behaviours. The playroom provides opportunities for children to have a positive experience by having a fun time.
