Physiotherapy
is a health care profession aimed at improving quality of life through
the assessment, maintenance, and restoration of the physical function
and performance of the body. Physiotherapists assess and diagnose
the problem before planning and administering treatment programs,
which aim to restore function, or minimise dysfunction after disease
or injury.
At Box
Hill Hospital, the Physiotherapy service forms part of the multidisciplinary
healthcare team including medical and nursing staff, occupational
therapy, social work, speech therapy and nutrition.
We provide
a range of patient services for both inpatients and outpatients, either
as individual consultations, or as part of specific group programmes.
In addition,
we offer supervised clinical experience for physiotherapy students,
and staff training consultancy in the area of manual handling.
All
medical units have access to services either by referral from medical
or nursing staff, or as a component of a specific care management
pathway.
Post
natal groups (also available to recently discharged mothers) are held
three times weekly in our maternity ward.
For elective
surgery patients, we provide pre-admission assessment for risk screening
and safe discharge planning.
