KYM model of care has been established for 10 years with proven positive outcomes for women and job satisfaction for midwives. KYM is an all risk model of care, therefore there are no exclusion criteria or transfers out.
Working life
- Caseload of 4 women birthing per month
- Weekly antenatal clinic with half hourly appointments
- No roster except Wednesday clinic.
- No rostered shifts on week ends or Night duty
- On call:
5 days per week with 2 clear days “off call”
Weekends on call shared between team (approx 1 weekend on call in 3-4 weeks)
Every 4th month “off call” and no women booked that month
Maximum of 12 hour shift for labour & birth care with backup
Team Support
- Weekly meetings between KYM midwives
- Monthly KYM meeting with Consultant Obstetrician – case review
- KYM works collegially within the Ruby team
