About Our Hospitals
Box Hill Hospital, Peter James Centre and Wantirna Health provide 443-beds located in the eastern suburbs and comprise the largest teaching hospital group in Melbourne's east. These hospitals and affiliated centres offer medical, surgical and critical care services, a maternity unit, rapid assessment medical unit, paediatrics, oncology, rehabilitation, renal and palliative care services and A & E. Box Hill offers a range of mental health, drug and alcohol services, hospital in the home and outpatient services.
In addition to the Graduate Nurse Program, the Centre for Education and Research offers an Entry into Specialist Practice Program after completion of the graduate year.
We also offer an extensive in-house range of education programs to all staff.
The Graduate Nurse Program
The Eastern Health Graduate Nurse Program will be incorporating Box Hill Hospital, Peter James Centre and the new Wantirna Health (previously known as Knox Healthcare Facility) with clinical rotations offered across the three sites.
The 2009 Graduate Nurse Program has 2 intakes commencing February 2nd and March 2nd, 2009.

Aims of the Graduate Nurse Program
The Easternhealth Graduate Nurse Program aims to provide graduate nurses with a supportive and flexible environment in which they can consolidate knowledge and skills as a beginning registered nurse. Eastern Health aims to empower the Graduate Nurse to broaden their scope of practice in a rich learning environment. The graduate nurse is a respected and valued member of the health care team who is encouraged to grow both personally and professionally.
Clinical Experience
Three (3) rotations of four (4) months duration. Areas include Medical and Surgical wards with the possible inclusion of:
- Rehabilitation
- Haemodialysis
- Mental Health
- Palliative care
- Emergency Department
- Paediatrics
- Operating Suite
During each rotation, clinical educators and / or preceptor nursing staff provide clinical support.

Post graduate Studies
Box Hill Hospital in Collaboration with The College of Nursing offer Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing. The program aims to cultivate excellence in the delivery of nursing care to clients in a variety of settings. Through the exploration of theoretical knowledge and clinical nursing, graduates are prepared for practice as advanced nurses.
