About Birralee Maternity ServicesGrads

Birralee is a purpose built "at home" style unit that caters for over 2000 births annually. We offer a variety of antenatal care midwifery care programs including KYM (caseload model), team midwifery and WINGS clinics for women at high social risk. Care is based on the woman's choice and the most appropriate care for her individual needs. The team approach is utilised for all women whether they be involved in midwifery, medical or GP shared care.

Graduates will be members of a team of midwives assigned to care for women throughout their pregnancy, birth, post natal and home support period, thus ensuring some continuity of care for women and their families.

About the Graduate Midwifery program

We aim to provide the graduate midwife an opportunity to consolidate midwifery skills and experience in a supportive and friendly environment. The program is modelled within the framework of the ACMI code of practice for midwives...and the ANMC competency standards.

Midwife & babyOur Graduate Midwives will work in a team-based environment across the continuum of care to provide sound, evidence-based practice; and to work collaboratively, but also be unafraid to challenge the status quo.

It is envisaged that upon completion of their year, the Graduate Midwives will emerge confident in their clinical skills and have a greater sense of professional identity and accountability. A reflective clinician who will be woman-centred to support, empower and work in partnership as they develop women’s confidence to birth and mother.
