Services Available

The Unit provides a full range of services of breast and general surgery.

• Breast Surgery

The Breast Clinic is a privatised clinic held on a Thursday morning and provides a multidisciplinary service in association with the Department of Oncology and Peter MacCallum Radiotherapy Services. The Clinic has a Breast Care Nurse, and all members of the Unit hold appointments with BreastScreen Victoria.

Services available through the Clinic include a full range of diagnostic workup for breast conditions in association with MIA Radiology, and surgical services available include breast preservation, reconstruction and sentinel lymph node biopsy.

Appointments to the Breast Clinic can be made with a referral from your doctor via the Outpatients appointments on 9895 3353.

• General Surgery

The unit provides a General Surgical Outpatient Clinic on a Monday morning, and in association with the other General Surgical Units provides an emergency surgical cover for Box Hill Hospital.

A broad range of General Surgical procedures are available including laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery, endocrine surgery, endoscopy and oncological surgery.

Appointments can be made with a doctor’s referral via Outpatients.

• Education & Research

The Unit is staffed with three specialist Surgeons and an accredited Surgical Registrar and an Intern. Box Hill Hospital is a Clinical School of Monash University and is involved with Clinical teaching of medical students and other graduates. Opportunities for participation in clinical trials, particularly with breast malignancies, is available.
