What is Speech Pathology?

Speech Pathologists assess and treat people who have a communication disability. Communication disabilities are the result of problems with speech, using and understanding language, voice, fluency, or reading and writing.

Speech Pathologists also work with people who have difficulties with swallowing.

Speech Pathology Services

The Speech Pathology Department provides services to clients within the hospital and the surrounding community. The department offers individual and group treatment and provides services to the following areas:

  • Emergency department
  • Acute inpatients
  • Intensive inpatient rehabilitation
  • Slow stream rehabilitation
  • Community Rehabilitation
  • Outpatient services

Services are available for clients with:

  • Speech and language difficulties following a stroke or other acquired neurological condition
  • Cognitive-communication difficulties resulting from an acquired neurological disorder
  • Swallowing disorders – videofluoroscopy assessment is available
  • Voice disorders

8:30am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday
