Women's and Children's Services

The Psychology Department offers a range of services to assist individuals and families with issues or concerns they may have during pregnancy and in the post natal period.

Services are provided in relation to:

  • Depression and anxiety - in particular ante- and post-natal depression
  • Coping and adjustment to pregnancy, delivery/birth experience and the arrival of a new baby
  • Grief and loss associated with the loss of a pregnancy or infant

In the event of pregnancy loss or the death of a infant, there can be unmet expectations, feelings of depression, sadness, anger, guilt and anxiety and difficulty returning to normal activities. The Psychology Department can assist individuals and couples who are undergoing this experience.

Services are based on individual needs. There are out-patient services to provide support and counseling during pregnancy and in the post-natal period. In-patient services are also available in the days surrounding delivery for any concerns that may arise.
