General Information about the Hospital
The Angliss Hospital is an acute public Hospital and a Member of Eastern Health. It is a community based hospital set at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, approximately 30kms from the CBD and within walking distance of a train station.
The hospital is committed to education and development of all staff.
Postgraduate courses are offered in Emergency, Midwifery, Operating Suite, High Dependency, Aged Care and Rehabilitation nursing.
The Angliss Hospital is an Accredited Baby Friendly Hospital where approximately 2,300 babies are born each year.
Our Philosophy
Midwives at the Angliss Hospital Maternity Unit are committed to providing quality care that is woman-centred and based on the philosophy that childbirth is a natural event which requires little or no intervention.
Angliss Maternity Services
The Angliss Hospital provides several models of care for women which are based upon the woman’s choice and the most appropriate care for her individual needs.
There is a 2 bed Family Birth Centre, 6 bed Delivery Suite, 8 cot Special Care Nursery and 22-26 bed Maternity Unit.
Graduate Midwifery Program
The aim of the program is to assist the newly graduated midwife to:
- Identify own learning needs
- Build on existing knowledge and skills
- Consolidate clinical skills
- Further develop an understanding of woman centred/client led care
- Develop practice based on research evidence
- Deliver competent midwife care
- Develop as a reflective practitioner
The program is 52 weeks long and the Graduates will be part of the maternity team and will have 3 rotations in the first six months, i.e. Maternity (Antenatal/Postnatal, Delivery Suite and Special Care Nursery)
The following six months are spent in a rotational midwifery model, between the Maternity ward and Delivery Suite.

The midwives we are seeking will have a commitment to woman centred care, an understanding of all areas of midwifery practice and models of care, and possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
