Dr Philippa Shirtcliffe, FRACP, Wellington, New Zealand:
Overall this was an outstanding course in concept, content and execution. I left feeling not only enriched in the sense of factual knowledge but excited about the medicine that lies ahead of me.
A/Prof Parkin was fabulous - thought provoking not least because it challenged old concepts (and also very entertaining!) That lecture was up in the realms of epiphany status!
Other talks that also ranked up in the stratosphere in terms of clear explanations of what can be difficult topics that one doesn't get taught well / aren't that well covered in textbooks that also had a good practical application included in the manner of presentation:
- Dysnatremia
- Cardiac Arrest - Resuscitated, what next?
- Coagulation and Bleeding emergencies - could have had longer listening to this speaker
- The Acutely agitated patient
- The Unconscious patient
- Oxygen Principles and Practice
With regards to those talks concerning the wider picture the following were excellent:
- Ethical and Legal Emergencies
- The Internist Today
- (and of course the Clinical Quiz- a great way to finish)

Thank you for organising a great program for us in Melbourne. It was a great learning experience as well as an enjoyable weekend for me. I will be recommending the program to my colleagues for next year.

Dr Milan Singh Bassan, Perth, WA:
I just wanted to pay you and all the organisers my regards on a very well run and useful course. It is certainly something that I hope becomes entrenched as an annual event.

Dr Timothy Lightfoot, FRACP, Melbourne, VIC:
You are to be congratulated on an excellent course which was extremely well organized and thoroughly enjoyable. I think you have created a course that will set a national benchmark.

Dr Damon Sutton, FANZCA, Melbourne, VIC:
Congratulations again for conducting a great course. Your sense of humor and grace helped the audience get through a lot of information and some terrible weather. I certainly learned a lot! Your request to the attendees to look beyond the science of medicine and to show kindness to others around you was appreciated by all.
I thought the topics were well chosen. I would be very surprised if more anaesthetists do not enroll in your course next year. Your major problem may be the need to find a bigger venue!
