HealthSMART

Eastern Health is leading Victoria with the  implementation of  the HealthSMART clinical systems, the commencement of a uniform electronic medical record for the public health system.

The clinical systems implementation at Eastern Health will transform the current model of information management across Eastern Health with a vision to improve patient care through the introduction of information systems that support clinical service delivery. The implementation of this system will be in two releases comprising of:

Release One: Clinical Workbench and ePrescribing

This includes functionality for results reporting (pathology and medical imaging results) with the ability for physicians to endorse results; problem list, allergies, alerts, electronic discharge summary, electronic medication profile, electronic prescribing for outpatient and discharge medications and decision support.

Release Two: Order Entry and Medication Management

This includes functionality to electronically order pathology and medical imaging tests, automation of the paper medication administration chart which includes ordering of the medication, scheduling and documentation of medication administration, use of barcode technology to verify patient and medication; pharmacy clinical review and decision support. 



 



FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Has my practice already got a HealthLink address setup?

To find out if your practice already has HealthLink, and to register if you don’t, call the HealthLink support centre on 1800 125 036.


If I already receive results from EH – do I need to update my details for HealthSMART?

No. All the electronic addresses of practices with HealthLink have been copied over to the directory used by the HealthSMART clinical application.


Can I arrange to have results and / or discharge summaries faxed to my practice/clinic?

If a HealthLink address is known, then the system will send the electronic Discharge Summary and results. If no HealthLink address is recorded, but a fax number is, you will get a faxed discharge summary. Failing either of these options, you will get a printout of the discharge summary in the post.


Can I arrange for my practice / clinic to receive Discharge Summaries electronically?

HealthSMART Clinicals will provide a Discharge Summary for all inpatients receiving acute care at Eastern Health. General Practice and Specialist Clinics can arrange to have this Discharge Summary sent to them electronically via HealthLink into their Practice software.
 
(Please note that this Discharge Summary for inpatients will be a separate Discharge summary to those being completed for Maternity and Emergency Department patients)

Does my practice need access to HealthSMART to view results?

No. HealthSMART Clinicals provides an integrated view of Results (Pathology and Medical Imaging) and the start of an electronic Medical Record. Access to HealthSMART Clinicals is only required for Eastern Health clinical staff.

To view results (Pathology Medical Imaging and Discharge Summaries) electronically, this can be arranged by registering your Practice with HealthLink. To find out if your practice already has HealthLink, and to register if you don’t, call the HealthLink support centre on 1800 125 036
