MEET OUR COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Community participation at Eastern Health
Participation is about engaging consumers, carers and community members in a meaningful way in decisions about health policy and planning, care and treatment, their wellbeing and that of their communities.
At Eastern Health, we achieve community engagement via:
- Consumer representation and participation in committees and working parties
- Responding to feedback from consumer surveys (such as the Victorian Patient Satisfaction Monitor)
- Input from consumers, carers and the community via consumer groups, our Community Advisory Committee and Community Advisory Groups

Our Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is a key means of ensuring community participation at Eastern Health. Established in 2001, it provides valuable insights and advice about the community’s needs and expectations.
The committee has two main roles:
1. To assist Eastern Health in integrating consumer and community views at all levels of its operations, planning and policy development.
2. To express the views of the community to the Eastern Health Board of Directors.
The Committee monitors the community participation plan to ensure it is appropriate and checks the organisation’s progress against the actions proposed.
Chaired by Martin Botros (a member of the Eastern Health Board of Directors), the CAC currently has nine dedicated community representatives. Community members are appointed as individuals rather than as organisational representatives but they bring knowledge of the opinions and policies of some community groups.
